PROPOSAL TO THE ADVANCED RESEARCH PROJECTS ADMINISTRATION

APPLICATION OF GEOMETRIC MODELING TO MECHANICAL DESIGN.

1. GEOMETRIC MODELING.
2. MECHANICAL DESIGN.
3. TEN OTHER APPLIACTIONS OF GEOMETRIC MODELING BRIEFLY DISCUSSED.

(Assume: We are asking for between 50 to 100 thousand dollars per
year for two years for salaries for myself (BGB), an assistant like (TVR),
and a graduate student; and a good PDP-11 driven vector display; and
 overhead.)
1. GEOMETRIC MODELING.

As a scientific research endeavor, the Geometric Modeling problem
is to represent the shape and appearance of physical objects and to simulate
their photometric, kinematic and mechanical behavior.
As a computer programming endeavor, aspects of geometric modeling arise in
computer graphics, vision, robotics, and artificial intellegence.
2. MECHANICAL DESIGN.

2A. SCENERIO OF INTERACTIVE MECHANICAL DESIGN.
	2B. WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE.
2C. WHAT WE INTEND TO DO.

2A.
Since the idea of an interactive display for mechanical
gesign is not new it is possible to compare the past, present and future
(Sketchpad, GEOMED-73, GEOMED-74).

Advantages of using a computer.

Disadvantages.
	Cost.

3. OTHER APPLIACTIONS OF GEOMETRIC MODELING.

	3.1 ANIMATION.
